Furniture in a Room

Let’s be real for a second here. Without furniture, the rooms in our homes would have nothing in them. We’d walk around empty homes sleeping on hardwood or concrete floors. And for some people that might be fine, but the rest of the world needs furniture in their rooms.

Think about it for a second. Not only is it necessary but to decorate a room is fun. So, putting furniture in any room becomes a worthwhile event any of us would love to embark on.

For most of us, the endeavor starts with the living room. In a normal house the living room is where all the action takes place. And for that reason the living room is furnished quite a bit. The furniture in that room starts with the couch. The couch is the most important because it’s where everyone, friends or family, will sit.

Couches can be leather, cotton, or several other fabrics and range from sectional to loveseat and even larger. After couches people need entertainment systems. An entertainment system can come in a variety of types that include contemporary to traditional, ones that fit many accessories to ones that sit only a TV.

From there the next room to furnish is the bedroom. Now, some people would say the bedroom is the most important. And in many instances I’ll agree. The first instance would be that the bed room is where you sleep.

And as we know putting furniture in that room – the room sleep – is very important. Some people can sleep standing and other require an area decorated by themselves with certain elements so they can sleep.

Now, beds come in all shapes and sizes: twin, full, queen, and king. There are beds that are very low and there are beds that are higher up. Beds can be very expensive but well worth it in the end. No one wants the place they’re going to sleep for the next few years to be uncomfortable, right? However, personally I could probably fall asleep on a piece of frozen steel (I sleep on a futon).

Putting furniture in the rooms of your house doesn’t stop with the bedrooms though. It moves right on to the dining room and the kitchen.

For some, the furniture in these rooms is interchangeable. For others, it’s a completely different set of furniture.

The confusion comes because both rooms are able to hold people who are going to eat their dinner. Personally, my table to eat dinner is in my kitchen, but I know a buddy whose table is in their dining room, and his family dines in there.

The difference, to me, boils down to appliances. Some people don’t view appliances as furniture but I do. I think a fridge is an essential part of a kitchen and therefore part of the furniture in that room.

However, that might just be my personal belief. Either way, every room in a home should be furnished to its greatest potential. After all, it is your home.

Bedroom Furniture Rundown

So, you have just bought a new home or apartment and are looking to get furniture for the bedroom. You don’t know why you didn’t think about buying the furniture before you got the house – perhaps you didn’t know there’d be a bedroom – but you know you’ve got to get some bedroom furniture as soon as possible.

But, what kind of bedroom furniture is there to buy? What do you need?

Beds and Bedroom Sets

Obvious the first choice would be a bed. Without a bed the bedroom is no longer a bedroom. For instance I sleep on a futon so my room is not truly a bedroom. Now, the bed should fit the size of the room and fit in accordance with the other bedroom furniture that you have, or that you will have.

Smaller room? Get a twin sized bed. Larger room? How about a queen size? Exceptionally large room? You may as well buy a king. And if you’ve got the money, buying a bedroom set wouldn’t be a bad idea.

A bedroom set encompasses most bedroom furniture needs you may have and in a pleasant manner. The bedroom set has matches parts and pieces, giving your room a better look from a designer’s standpoint. As an example, imagine buying a bedroom set and getting all the parts to it, you’d get a nightstand, a bed, a dresser and a mirror. And all of them in matching styles.

If the sets don’t do it for you, or you find them too expensive, then buying your own bedroom furniture might work for you. Not to mention, not everyone can fit both a night stand and a dresser in the same room.

Dresser

It’s key to have a dresser in a bedroom. I’m not sure where the tradition began but it exists and is clear that people change, get dressed, and undress in their bedroom. Having a dresser is key for this.

And in this day and age a dresser no longer serves as just a dresser. Often times you’ll find the dressers are built to hold televisions and other electronics. Now, TVs aren’t necessarily bedroom furniture, but they’re well on their way. My bedroom has a TV… and I don’t even watch TV.

Regardless, finding the right dresser is essential. The style of your room depends on it, you can choose from several different types of wood including mahogany, oak, cedar, and others. Plus they all come in different sizes. Four drawers only? No problem. Need 9 drawers, of different lengths? No problem either. There are plenty of dressers to suit just your needs.

Closet Storage

Now, we’re going to assume that mattresses fall under the beds category, so that leaves the last most important piece of bedroom furniture as closet storage. Nearly all bedrooms have closets, so it’s important that if yours doesn’t to buy a storage unit. They’re basically larger dressers and similar to armoires, so be sure to buy them only if you have the room and need.

Here are top 10 Baby Accessories to decorate your baby’s surroundings with:

1. Musical Mobiles- You can hang these over the baby’s crib or the pay pen, and see how cute the overall effect is. Musical mobiles are one of the most old fashioned, and yet one of the best baby accessories to have in the room.

2. Duvets and Pillows- Select these carefully for placing them on the baby’s crib, or anywhere else in the room, like on the baby rocking chair, etc. Make sure they are soft, comfortable, and are highly washable too.

3. Diaper Stackers- These are absolute must haves in the baby’s room. Select them such that they are not only useful as you might want them to be, but they also look great, going well with the room theme. Get diaper stackers, matching well with the wall color, or the window curtain patterns to create a strong overall effect.

4. Toy Bags- These baby accessories come in very handy, especially when you go on a cleaning spree in order to arrange things in the baby’s room. Get a well designed large toy bag that be huddled away in a corner to take care of all your baby’s toys when he or she does not require them.

5. Wall Hangings- You can use quite a number of wall hangings in designs of popular carton characters, or wall hangings according to the room theme to add a touch of luxury to the baby’s room. These are great bedroom accessories, and can enhance the appearance of the room to quite an extent.

6. Window Valance- Nice and fuzzy window valances, in soft patterns make nice accessories in the baby’s bedroom. Just make sure that you put them up well.

7. Moses Beds or Bassinets- Moses Beds and Bassinets are some of most popular baby accessories. They look nice, and do not cost too much either. The only problem with these is that they cannot be used for too long since as the baby grows older you would need to shift him or her to a larger bed.

8. Throw rug- A soft, comfortable throw rug, put carelessly on the floor of the baby’s room can be a great baby accessory to have. Not only does it look good, it also helps you make sure that as the baby starts making an attempt at crawling, he or she does not end up with a scratched knee or bruised palms.

9. Wall Border- You can use these to decorate the baby’s room. However, do not make the mistake of overdoing anything when it comes to using wall borders, and keep its use reasonable to get the best effects. Opting for wall borders in designs that can be left to remain in the room even as the baby grows a few years older is a smart idea.

10. Soft toys- Soft toys look delicate and sweet, just like the babies. No wonder they go amazingly well in baby’s rooms and you can buy lots of them. Besides decorating the room, they also provide the baby something to play with. Make sure you keep them clean though, since unclean soft toys can cause diseases, including asthma.

Three Simple Steps I Used for Decluttering My Bedroom

Life simply works best when we have our physical environment really work. When we’re organized, we can think more clearly, we’re more efficient, and we can take on projects that have lain dormant for months or even years.

Having a clean bedroom is a great way to save lots of time. In the morning, if the bedroom is decluttered, our morning activities are productive and simple. Also, we’re left with doing what we need to do to get ready for the day and not having the thoughts about our day clouded by all of the unfinished tasks that fill the bedroom. We get a good, positive start to the day, which is valuable indeed.

But good, lasting organization doesn’t happen overnight. It is crucial to start smart because decluttering takes a lot of effort at the beginning. I strongly recommend getting expert advice in order to see results quickly and avoid getting bogged down in too much “stuff”. You’ll save yourself hours and hours of work if you listen to the right people.

When I got started on decluttering my bedroom, I started with these simple steps:

Step 1. Simplify Your Bed – Making the bed every morning is the single-most important step in keeping the bedroom looking great. But often, we’ve got blankets that we add, or have 50 pillows on the bed, or, the worst-case scenario—our beds are the place we store things like clothes and papers and books. Clear off that bed, find a place for everything and if you’re adding blankets every night, simply add them to the layer of sheets and deal with them when you make the bed. An additional blanket under the covers is a lot easier to manage that four extra blankets on top.

Step 2. Clean Out Under the Bed – If you must store things under the bed, keep it to a minimum and keep it simple. Get rid of the thirty bottles of body wash that you bought impulsively ten years ago. I found that the peace of mind that I acquired while decluttering my bedroom was well worth the replacement costs of any extra products that I’d been shuffling around for years. Put things in shallow plastic bins that slide out easily. In these, put only the things that you’re going to need regularly. I put extra shampoo, toothbrushes, and toothpaste in our bins. I also put extra makeup and hair accessories that I don’t need in a bin under the bed. And there’s still plenty of room for my cat to curl up for a nap under the bed.

Step 3. Your Bedroom is Not An Office – Get your paperwork out of the bedroom! I repeat, get your paperwork out of the bedroom. When we have work in the bedroom, we don’t relax. We’re subconsciously thinking about all of the work we have to do. Keep your bedroom a sanctuary. You need to have at least one room for yourself. Move the file cabinet and desk out as soon as you can.

Choosing Your Childs First Bed

There are many child friendly beds available that can make the transition much easier. How your child sleeps at night should be a big factor in which bed you eventually choose. If your child flails around in bed then it is wise to purchase a bed that has a guard to prevent them from falling off the edge of the bed.

The biggest issue many parents find however, is that children often are scared and intimidated by sleeping in a new bed that isn’t their cot. If this is the scenario you should consider the many child friendly designs the bed manufacturing companies are designing. Silentnight have designed a range of beds specifically for young children. They come with fun headboards that will make it appear more friendly and likeable for the child, and to make it even more appealing Silentnight have stitched in a secret compartment in the headboard for your child to store things. The mattresses themselves are full-sized single bed built to the highest standards. Every component keeps kids comfy and safe, from the Miracoil spring system to the rounded edges. There is also a ‘sleepover’ function that allows you to separate the mattress from base turning it into two beds for when your child has sleepovers.

The bed comes in four different styles; two for boys and two for girls. Boys have the option of a rocket or football headboard and the girls have the option of toadstool or heart style; all styles which are pleasing to the eye and which will distract your child when the big transition occurs.
